Неизменна част от функционирането на катедрата е научно-изследователската дейност, чрез която преподаватели и студенти следят и участват в съвременното развитие на технологиите, в сферата на системите за автоматично управление. Тя е съсредоточена в четири научни направления: Теория на автоматичното управление, Интелигентно управление и роботика, Индустриална автоматизация и Електрозадвижване.
